Introduction and Tips of Using Syringe Filters

Syringe filter has being used widely in laboratory, which is a kind of quick, convenient and reliable filtering tool. No need to change its membrane or clean the filter, it saves the time and trouble of so many complicated preparing jobs. Syringe filters are a kind of disposable and self-contained filtering device which are typically used to remove particularly from the solution, either liquids or gasses. When you select the syringe filter for your application, there are some key factors you need to concern about, such as the materials of the filter and housing, the pore size of the filter, effective filtration area, and hold-up volume of the membrane.

Hawach truly understands the need for a great product, quick shipment, and friendly customer service to ensure that you and your laboratory run efficiently, who is able to provide one-time and/or recurring shipments and guarantee its products and service. Its syringe filters are manufactured under strict ISO9001 & ISO13485 guidelines.

Membrane material

There are so many kinds of membrane materials in the market. We can conclude them as following: PP, Nylon, Mixed cellulose, cellulose acetate, polyether sulfone, PVDF, PTFE and glass fiber.

How to complete the preparation before using the syringe filter?

After cleaning and sterilizing the filter element and shell, the experimenters start to install the syringe filter device. People should install the device strictly according to the instructions and tighten the bolt seal. After completing the installation of the syringe filter unit, the whole filter system must be completely washed with clean water. After that, the filtration operation can be carried out. The syringe filter can apply in laboratory water and organic phase solution filtration in education and commercial development, sample preparation of chromatography and mass spectrometry, analysis of ambient air, waste gas and water quality.

Being selected upon the your application, disposable syringe filters can be used for the fast and efficient filtration, material purification and sterilization by removing particulate impurities from small liquid samples.

You have choices of Hawach sterile or non-sterile filter upon the demand of your applications. Sterile syringe filters are for sterilize non-sterile solutions and clarify sterile solutions. When the general filtration or sample purification is needed, the non-sterile syringe filters are the good choices.

After you select the appropriate Hawach syringe filter and syringe for your application, you can draw your sample into the syringe, attaching the filter to the syringe end. when you use a Luer lock filter, you have to make sure that you have secured the filter into the syringe tip in the right way. Then you can hold the syringe with the filter pointing up and push a few drops through the filter. After you place the filter tip over the collection container, it's the time to push the sample through a syringe filter by applying gentle positive pressure.

The basic methods for using syringe filters

How to use syringe filter? First, load the sample into your syringe. Then you can twist and attach the filter securely. It is about one quarter turn when you a Luer slip syringe is used. If the syringe has a Luer lock, don't forget to fix it firmly but not too tight. To prevent air blocks and promotes high flow rates as the sample is spread evenly over the membrane surface, the next important step is to hold the assembled syringe and filter vertically to make the membrane wet evenly.

When you are all set, you can press the syringe plunger to push sample through the filter very gently.for better results, we suggest discarding the first 0.25-0.5ml of your sample. Before you fill the syringe, draw about 1 ml of air into it, which helps to empty the fluid that remains in the filter. At the beginning of the filtration, always start with small pressure. And increase the pressure, when the particles are gathered in the filter, and you can feel the air resistance. You'd better change the filter if the back pressure ever increases significantly. Don't press it too much, avoiding filter housing being burst.

Products using

Being artistic and light, it has being widely used in sample pre-filtering, cleaning out particles and the sterile filtration of liquid or gas. Syringe filter is the preferred alternative for HPLC or GC sample filtering, usually matching with disposable syringe, with filter diameter from 4mm to 50mm, and capacity from 0.5ml to 200ml.

In HPLC analysis, the column packing particle size is small and easily blocked by impurity particles, so the sample and solvent need to be pre-filtered to remove particulate contaminants and protect the instrument.

Commonly used in environmental analysis, Ion chromatography also requires the introduction of inorganic contaminants in sample preparation. Syringe filters can be used in HPLC analysis and IC analysis to filter sample solutions as an important step in sample preparation.

HAWACH syringe filter

One of the shortcomings of the traditional filter is that it is easy to blast. The HAWACH syringe filter has been specially designed to withstand strong burst pressure. The edge of the filter is threaded for anti-slip effect, and the user-friendly design makes the operator comfortable. Stable filter quality and zero difference between batch and batch ensure the consistency of analysis results. Also, the clear specification mark eliminates the confusion.

Avoid the damage to your equipment in the lab, syringe filters are good tools to remove particles from liquid samples. Perfect for small volumes and reasonable prices, syringe filters are widely used nowadays.

Disposable syringe filters are widely used for filtering out contaminants and extraneous particles which may affect analytical results in the way of clogging liquid pathways.

Hawach Scientific Syringe filter are to provide fast and efficient water and organic solution filtration solutions, which are suitable for a wide range of applications in pharmaceutical, environmental, biotechnology, food, beverage, and agricultural product testing laboratories. It is made from a variety of membrane filters containing polypropylene housings, and special injection molding processes increase burst pressure and filtration speed.

Hawach syringe filter is mainly used for the filtration of mobile phase and sample in chromatographic analysis, and has outstanding effect on the maintenance of chromatographic column, infusion pump pipe system and injection valve from pollution. It is widely used in the component analysis, microanalysis, colloid separation, and aseptic experiment. When it is used for the sample pretreatment of liquid chromatography, it can prevent the impurities in the sample from blocking the chromatographic column, maintain the pipeline system of the pump and the injection valve from being polluted, maintain the chromatographic system and so on.
