What Are the Sterilized Syringe Filters Suitable for Your Experiments?

The syringe filter is widely used for sample small amout filtration in the laboratory. It has little adsorption to the sample, thus ensuring a large amount of recovery of small or high-value samples. The filter shell is made of polypropylene, welded with ultrasonic waves, and does not contain adhesives , thus not contaminating the sample.

How to achieve the filtering effect of the syringe filter? Follow these steps to achieve filtering:

1. Before aspirating the sample, draw about 1 ml of air into the syringe. This minimizes liquid retention.
2. Following the 1ml air, draw the sample into the syringe. Take it upside down and clean the  residue on the tip.
3. Use the luer connector to connect the syringe to the syringe filter and ensure it is sealed well.
4.First inject the filtered solution into a vial and draw air into the syringe. Then reinstall the syringe filter, and filter out residual sample by depressing the plunger. This allows for sample recovery.
5. Note: Use a syringe with a volume of less than 10 mL with caution. Because it is easy to generate enough pressure to burst the syringe filter. Disposable consumables, not recommended for reuse.

Sterilized syringe filters

Sterilized syringe filters are used to remove particulate impurities from liquid and gas samples prior to analysis by methods such as HPLC, ion chromatography, gas chromatography, ICP, and dissolution testing. Ion chromatography, commonly used in environmental analysis, also requires that inorganic contaminants cannot be introduced in sample pretreatment. Sterilized syringe filters can be used in HPLC analysis and IC analysis. Filtration of sample solutions is an important step in the sample pretreatment process. By properly filtering samples, the quality and consistency of analytical results can be improved and instrument downtime reduced.

HAWACH provides sterile syringe filters of various filter media (polyethersulfone, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyvinylidene fluoride, mixed cellulose, cellulose acetate, etc.), which are suitable for sterilization of protein solutions, tissue culture solutions and bacterial filtration.

The sterile syringe filter is used in conjunction with a disposable syringe. It is a fast, convenient and reliable filter processing device for small-volume samples routinely used in laboratories. It is mainly used in samples pre-filtration, sterile filtration of laboratory biological fluids, media and media additives. We can see the sterilized syringe filters in many industries, like the medical,  life science, food, biotechnology, agricultural testing laboratories and environment and so on for the removal of small volume samples such as proteins, additives, buffers, reagents and drugs. bacteria.

Main applications of sterilized syringe filter

1. Preparation of tissue culture medium
2. Sterilization filtration
3. Clarification of biological solvents
4. Filtration of protein and enzyme solvents
5. Filtration of the hybridization buffer

Advantages of sterile syringe filters

1. The shell material is made of hygienic polypropylene material.
2. The product structure design is precise, which ensures smooth filtration, rationalization of internal space and low residual rate, thus reducing the waste of samples.
3. The edge part has threads, which play a non-slip effect, and the humanized design makes the operator handy.
4. The filter membrane pore size can provide protection for  instrument and chromatographic column.
5. Stable membrane quality and zero variance between batches ensure the consistency of analysis results.
6. Clear specification identification, eliminating the trouble of confusion.

In summary, besides the above description of the features and advantages of the sterile syringe filters, the syringe filter’s main function is remove particulates from a liquid sample, so we need to choose one based on the end application. For the sterile syringe filters, they can clarify sterile solutions or sterilize non-sterile solutions.
