The filter membrane is made of polymer chemical materials, and pore-forming additives are specially treated and then smeared on the support layer. 1. Filter membrane material (chemical compatibility)

When choosing a microporous membrane, the first thing to consider is chemical compatibility. Is the filter membrane resistant to acids, alkalis, organic solvents, etc.

2. The pore size of the filter membrane

3μm or larger particles, 0.45μm syringe filters are used for chromatographic column systems; for chromatographic systems using less than 3μm fillers, or chromatographic systems involving microbial growth, 0.22μm membranes are recommended. For difficult-to-handle turbid solutions, you can use a 1-5μm filter membrane for pre-filtration, and then use the corresponding filter membrane for continuous filtration.

Introduction to the different functions of different pore sizes of microporous membranes:

0.22μm: It can remove very fine particles in samples and mobile phases; it can meet the requirements of 99.99% sterilization specified by GMP or Pharmacopoeia.

0.45μm: it can filter out most bacteria and microorganisms; conventional samples and mobile phase filtration can meet general chromatographic requirements.

1-5μm: To filter larger particles of impurities, or for the pretreatment of difficult-to-handle turbid solutions, it can be filtered with a 1-5μm membrane first, and then filtered with the corresponding membrane.

Commonly used filter membranes include PTFE membrane, GF and Nylon membrane, PES and PVDF and so on. The PTFE membrane is chemically compatible and can filter almost all organic solvents and strong corrosive chemicals; Glass fiber pre-filtration membrane is used to increase the filtration rate and continuous filtration. Nylon membrane is used to filter alkaline solutions and organic solvents.
